Confidentiality is key – MP warns against politicisation of Chief Justice’s case

Manhyia South MP Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah has raised concerns over the decision to publicise the petition seeking the removal of Chief Justice Gertrude Torkonoo.

He believes the move could compromise the integrity of the judiciary and cast doubts on its impartiality.

Speaking on JoyNews’ Newsfile programme, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) legislator criticised the Presidency for handling the matter in a way that could lead to political interference.

“This constitutional process requires a level of confidentiality, at least in its early stages. Making it public at this point risks politicising the matter and casting doubt on the impartiality of the judiciary,” he stated.

Expressing further concerns, he warned that exposing such a process to the public too soon could set a dangerous precedent. “The integrity of our judiciary is at stake.

“We must be careful not to create a perception that judges can be targeted based on political considerations.”
