Contractual issues force closure of Teshie-Nungua water plant

Ghana Water Limited (GWL) has temporarily shut down the Teshie-Nungua Desalination Plant, a move that will affect water supply to communities along Accra’s eastern coastal corridor.
The shutdown, announced in a press release dated October 28, is due to unresolved contractual issues and a prolonged lack of critical maintenance needed for safe and efficient operations.
The plant has been a vital source of potable water for areas including Teshie, Nungua, Spintex, parts of Sakumono, and La.
To mitigate the impact, GWL stated it has implemented measures such as rerouting water from alternative treatment plants and prioritizing supply to essential service facilities like hospitals and schools.
The company expressed regret for the inconvenience and assured the public that “engagements are ongoing to expedite the resolution of the matter and restore normal operations.”
Regular updates will be provided through GWL’s official website and social media platforms.
