COP Lydia Donkor reveals Ghana-Nigeria Cooperation against human trafficking

COP Lydia Yaako Donkor has revealed that Ghana recently participated in a historic high-level bilateral meeting with the Nigeria Police Force to address human trafficking.
She stated, “On November 6, 2025, we led an eight-member delegation to Abuja for a formal dialogue focused solely on combating human trafficking and its links with cybercrime.”
The meeting was co-chaired with DIG Sadiq Abubakar of the Nigeria Police Force CID.
The discussions concluded with a joint communiqué, which COP Lydia Donkor said commits both countries to “intensify intelligence exchange, coordinate operations, fast-track prosecutions, and rescue victims.”
She highlighted that Ghana’s engagement at the INTERPOL African Regional Committee paved the way for these discussions.
“Through regional collaboration, early detection, and preventive policing, we aim to disrupt trafficking networks effectively and protect vulnerable populations,” COP Lydia Donkor said in a post sighted by MyNewsGh.
She added that these bilateral and multilateral efforts demonstrate Ghana’s commitment to being a credible and proactive force in the regional fight against modern slavery.
