Two suspects nabbed in Wa serial murder case

The Upper West Regional Police Command says it has made a major breakthrough in its investigation into a string of serial murders that have plagued Wa since 2021.

In a press release issued on October 8, 2025, the Command confirmed the arrest of Sherif Abdulai, a 30-year-old ex-convict, and Mahamuda Lamin, 25, in connection with the killing of 55-year-old security man Issah Yahaya at Wa-Dobile on September 21, 2025.

“Government is dealing with the arrears. In fact, one of the things the Minister presented to Cabinet [Tuesday] was the audited arrears,” the statement said. *(Replace with police quote)*

“The Upper West Regional Police Command has made a major breakthrough in its investigations into a series of murder cases recorded since 2021 in the Wa Municipality, with the arrest of two key suspects,” the release stated.

Police said a search on Sherif Abdulai led to the recovery of the victim’s belongings, including a mobile phone, cutlass, and bicycle.

A blood-stained cement block and knife were also retrieved from the crime scene.

A post-mortem at the Upper West Regional Hospital confirmed the cause of death as “severe head injury due to blunt force trauma.”

“A review of the facts revealed a similar method in about 15 murder cases since 2021,” the statement added.

The police assured the public that investigations are ongoing and pledged to bring all perpetrators to justice.
