Court orders AG to file witness statements in Adu-Boahene trial by May 20

An Accra High Court has ordered the Attorney General’s office to file all witness statements in the ongoing criminal trial involving former Director-General of the National Signals Bureau (NSB), Kwabena Adu-Boahene, by May 20, 2025.

Presiding over the case, Justice John Eugene Nyadu Nyante issued the directive during a court sitting and urged the prosecution to expedite the trial, citing concerns over the personal liberties of the accused, particularly Mr. Adu-Boahene.

Both Mr. Adu-Boahene and his wife, Angela Adjei Boateng, who is also facing charges, are currently out on bail. The case has been adjourned to May 26.

Mr. Adu-Boahene and his wife were formally charged in April by Attorney General Dominic Ayine in connection with a GHS 49 million corruption scandal.

The charges span 11 counts, including stealing, money laundering, defrauding by false pretences, and wilfully causing financial loss to the state.

The former NSB chief, who was responsible for national cybersecurity infrastructure, is accused of conspiring with others—including Mildred Donkor and a company, Advantage Solutions Limited—to divert funds meant for national security contracts.

Prosecutors allege that Mr. Adu-Boahene signed a $7 million contract with Israeli firm ISC Holdings Limited for cyber defence software, but instead transferred the equivalent amount—approximately GHS 49 million—into personal accounts under false pretences.

On May 2, the court ordered that Mr. Adu-Boahene be held in the custody of the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) for seven working days to allow the Attorney General to finalise the preparation of witness statements.
