Criticism from within the party hurt NPP’s 2024 Campaign

Former Vice President and 2024 New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has attributed the party’s defeat in the 2024 general elections to internal divisions that weakened their campaign.
During the launch of his national Thank You Tour in Takoradi on Saturday, April 26, Dr. Bawumia addressed the challenges that the NPP faced during the election cycle, stressing that unity is crucial for any successful group effort.
However, he pointed out that internal issues within the party undermined their cohesion and played a significant role in their electoral loss.
“Unity is key in every group endeavour, but for the 2024 elections we faced internal issues,” Dr. Bawumia stated, explaining how public criticisms from within the party were used against them by the opposition.
He further revealed that comments made by NPP members about their own party and government were strategically seized upon by the National Democratic Congress (NDC), who “played back these words by our own members against us through a series of adverts in the media.”
Reflecting on the impact of such internal discord, Dr. Bawumia acknowledged that when the attack is coming from within, it has a far-reaching effect.
“They used the words against us, and if the attack is coming from your own members, you can imagine the effect,” he remarked, highlighting the deep influence that these divisions had on the party’s performance in the elections.
