Current NACOC leadership will not mishandle seized narcotics – Twum Barima assures

Deputy Director General of the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC), Twum Barima, has reassured Ghanaians that intercepted narcotics will be handled with the utmost integrity under the current leadership of the commission.

Speaking during an interview on TV3’s Key Points, Twum Barima stressed that there is no room for mishandling or tampering with seized substances under the current administration.

“These are men of integrity, men who will not burn any curve. Under Mahama, you will not hear this cock and bull story that substance left our exhibit room, came back and it turned into something,” he stated.

Explaining the commission’s standard operating procedures for seized narcotics, he noted that the substances are properly stored until legal processes are concluded.

“We usually burn them,” he revealed, referring to the procedure for disposing of the drugs once court proceedings are completed.

Twum Barima further added, “You keep them until the matter comes to a close. If tomorrow you are asked to produce them as an exhibit, what do you do? So we keep them until the court gives further and better directives. We have exhibit rooms where we keep them.”
