Cybercrime arrests set to rise – Expert Warns

Cyber Security expert Richard Kumador has warned that arrests and extraditions of alleged cybercriminals in Ghana will intensify, urging individuals involved in cybercrime to abandon the practice before it is too late.

Speaking on Sompa FM in relation to the arrest of alleged cyber fraud suspect Abu Trica, Mr. Kumador cited past cases to illustrate the growing crackdown. He recalled the arrest and imprisonment of Hajia 4Real, who later returned to Ghana after being freed, followed by the arrest and extradition of a group of young men to the United States.

He also referenced musician Shatta Wale, noting that advice given to him over a controversial vehicle purchase was initially ignored and met with insults, only for him to later apologise. According to Mr. Kumador, issues surrounding such high-profile purchases have, in some cases, triggered investigations leading to the arrest of other individuals.

“When we speak and advise, people do not listen,” he said, adding that the consequences are now becoming evident through continuous arrests and extraditions to the United States.

Mr. Kumador explained that Abu Trica was described as “notorious” because he was allegedly well known and prominent within the cybercrime network. He disclosed that about 32 arrests have already been made in connection with cybercrime cases, with the Minister of Information hinting that two more suspects are yet to be picked up.

He further revealed that between 29 and 30 additional cybercrime-related arrests are expected from January 2026 through December 2026, as investigations continue.
