Damongo teacher opens up about losing GH₵400,000 to forex trading
A teacher from Damongo in the Savannah Region has shared a heartbreaking account of how a series of financial decisions led to the loss of nearly everything he once held dear—including his business, property, mental well-being, and dignity.
Speaking candidly, the teacher, who once ran one of the most successful electrical shops in his town, recalled how his life took a drastic turn after venturing into forex trading.
What started as a promising side hustle quickly turned into a cycle of losses, desperation, and emotional decline.
“At first, I was making money, and I thought I had hit gold,” he confessed. “But soon, the losses started. And once you start chasing losses, you lose more than just money—you lose your mind.”
Before his downfall, he was a community pillar, supporting 11 underprivileged schoolchildren with daily meals, school uniforms, and mentorship. He had also gained popularity through contributions to local entertainment efforts.
But as the forex losses mounted, he began selling off shop inventory, then his motorcycle, personal belongings, and eventually, his land and rented room—just to reinvest and recover. Unfortunately, each desperate attempt to “bounce back” only led to more loss.
“I’ve lost close to 400,000 cedis. I’ve lost everything. My shop, my land, my dignity… I’m only alive because of what the next problem might be.”
Now stripped of almost everything and battling depression, the teacher says he’s not looking for sympathy—but rather wants to caution others.
“I’m sorry to my mother. I’m sorry to those I disappointed. I don’t want pity. I just want someone to learn from my mistake.”
