Afrobeats superstar Davido has added his voice to the growing chorus demanding the release of controversial activist Verydarkman, who was reportedly arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) following a visit to GTBank.
Taking to social media, Davido expressed heartfelt support for the detained activist, acknowledging the widespread impact of his efforts and the massive wave of solidarity now swelling in his defence.
“Outside all the noise, it’s good to see that the good one does actually impacts lives and Pple actually appreciate!
“The support I’m seeing for VDM everywhere is encouraging.. makes one want to do more for the masses ❤️ FREE MY GUY,” the singer wrote.

Davido’s remarks come amid nationwide attention to the circumstances surrounding
Verydarkman’s sudden disappearance, which many have linked to his outspoken criticism of certain powerful interests and institutions.
VeryDarkMan (VDM) was arrested on May 2, 2025, by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in Abuja.
His arrest reportedly followed a visit to a Guaranty Trust Bank (GTBank) branch, where he had gone to resolve complaints about unauthorised withdrawals from his mother’s account.
According to his lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, VDM was taken into custody by men in black uniforms outside the bank, allegedly beaten, blindfolded, and detained without formal charges.
The EFCC later confirmed his arrest, stating that he is being held in connection with petitions received against him, though no details have been made public.
“We have some petitions against him that we are working on. He has some issues with us,” EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale said.
The arrest has sparked widespread criticism online and offline.
At the time of writing, the EFCC has neither confirmed nor denied holding him, and the exact reason for his reported arrest remains unknown.
The singer’s post has since gone viral, sparking fresh conversations about the risks activists face and the role of public figures in championing causes that affect ordinary Nigerians.
