Delta State’s Shimite Bello dies in domestic violence incident

Chief (Mrs.) Shimite Winifred Bello, the Special Adviser to the Governor of Delta State on Trade and Export, has sadly passed away.

The celebrated trade and economic expert’s untimely death is believed to be linked to domestic violence, though the full details remain unclear at the time of reporting.

The tragic news was confirmed by human rights activist and Delta State Governor’s aide, Harrison Gwamnishu, who shared the sombre update on Facebook on Monday, April 21, 2025.

Comrade Victor Ojie, another prominent human rights activist from Delta, also verified the news, offering heartfelt words of caution about the dangers of staying in abusive relationships. “Marriage is not by force oh. It’s better to lose your marriage than to lose your life oh,” he shared on social media.

Further reports from Facebook user Hon. Oge Okonkwo indicated that Shimite’s husband has been arrested in connection with her death.

In a poignant post, Shimite’s aide, Tameta Sunday, expressed the shock and grief surrounding her passing, alleging that her husband was responsible for the fatal incident.

“It’s very difficult to type RIP boss, knowing fully well an ugly soul called pastor with a gentle look as a husband cut all the positive plans we had together,” he wrote.

Shimite was a distinguished figure in her field, having served as the Coordinator of the Delta State UNIDO Centre and as the focal person for implementing the Federal Government’s Social Investment Programme in the state.

She was also instrumental in promoting African cuisine, culture, and tourism through her TV documentary, African Pot.
