Disease knows no politics — Edudzi Tameklo rallies support for Mahama care initiative

Chief Executive Officer of the National Petroleum Authority (NPA), Godwin Edudzi Tameklo, has passionately defended the newly launched Mahama Care programme and called on Ghanaians across all political divides to rally support behind the initiative aimed at supporting individuals living with chronic illnesses.

“All of us here, we should, in unison, help increase the funding source into that particular programme. Disease doesn’t know politics,” Tameklo stated during a panel discussion on The Keypoints.

He emphasized the credibility and expertise of the committee steering the initiative, dismissing attempts to politicize its work.

“This is not a committee of political novices,” he noted. “He cited the ‘exceptional credentials’ of the committee members, many of whom are distinguished former Supreme Court judges, lawyers, and public servants. I cannot, and will not, sit in judgment over these highly accomplished individuals.”

Tameklo also warned against encouraging President Mahama to bypass constitutional procedures or undermine his oath of office.

“Why would you invite the president to disobey the Constitution?” he asked pointedly.

He added that “any violation of that oath,” no matter how subtle, “could be grounds for Mahama’s own impeachment.”

According to Tameklo, President John Mahama is fully committed to acting within the law and has no intention of compromising constitutional principles.

“President Mahama has no choice but to follow the law meticulously,” he stressed.
