Don’t call me bro anymore, it’s ‘His Excellency’

Popular Ghanaian YouTuber Wode Maya has expressed deep gratitude after being honoured with a diplomatic passport by the Government of Ghana.
In a yet humorous reaction shared on social media sighted by MyNewsGh, the celebrated digital storyteller reflected on his journey and the significance of the recognition.
“We’ve been on this incredible journey showcasing Ghana and the African continent to the world and never in my wildest dreams did I think a proud village boy like me would be holding a Diplomatic Passport,” Maya wrote.
“I’m truly humbled and deeply grateful to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Ghana 🇬🇭. From today, don’t just call me Maya—call me His Excellency 😜. If you see me at the airport, please—no more ‘bro, bro’… it’s now ‘Your Excellency, Maya’ 🤣✈️🇬🇭. THANK YOU AMA GHANA,” he added.
The announcement was first made earlier today, September 17, 2025, by Minister of Foreign Affairs Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa at the launch of the 2025 Diaspora Summit.
Ablakwa revealed that five distinguished Ghanaians had been selected for diplomatic passports in recognition of their exceptional contributions to promoting Ghana on the global stage.
“I announced today at the launch of the 2025 Diaspora Summit that based on the authority conferred on the Foreign Minister of Ghana under NLCD 155, we are honoring the following outstanding Ghanaians with Diplomatic Passports… Congratulations; keep bringing Ghana renown,” Ablakwa stated.
The recipients include Wode Maya, media entrepreneur Lady Dentaa Amoateng, Grammy-nominated musician Rocky Dawuni, broadcaster Anita Erskine, and acclaimed artist Ibrahim Mahama, whom Ablakwa clarified is “the iconic artist, not President Mahama’s brother.”
