Don’t try cases in the media – Elvis Darko tells OSP

Editor of the Newscenta newspaper, Elvis Darko, has expressed concern over the Office of the Special Prosecutor’s (OSP) increasing tendency to handle high-profile investigations in the media spotlight, rather than through formal legal processes.
Speaking on Breakfast Daily on Channel One TV, Elvis cautioned that the OSP’s media-first approach could backfire.
“If an investigative body decides to do their work in the media, they risk a lot of reputational damage,” he said.
“The media wants to hear it from the court — that the court has said this on the issue. But when it is about you and not the court, it sometimes comes back to hurt the institution.”
His comments come in the wake of the OSP’s latest move — summoning former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta to appear before it on June 2, 2025, in connection with an ongoing probe.
While transparency is key in governance, Elvis Darko believes that when investigative bodies rush to the press before completing legal procedures, it risks undermining the credibility of both the case and the institution.
