Dr. Anomah slams NDC over failed budget promises

Senior lecturer at Kumasi Technical University, Dr. Sampson Anomah, has delivered a scathing critique of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government, accusing it of failing to follow through on key promises in the 2025 national budget.
Dr. Anomah argued that the budget “looks good on paper” but lacks meaningful execution.
“There is no real action behind it. The NDC government has failed to implement its own promises, and Ghanaians are the ones suffering the consequences,” he saidSpeaking on Wontumi TV’s morning show,
He pointed to stalled infrastructure development as one of the government’s biggest shortcomings, noting that no major projects have been initiated this year and payments to contractors have been deferred until 2026.
He also questioned the fate of the proposed Women’s Bank, which remains unfulfilled months after its announcement.
Although Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson has highlighted fiscal gains such as a primary surplus and spending cuts to reduce debt, Dr. Anomah warned that the economic outlook remains bleak.
He predicted high interest rates in 2026 and suggested the government would rely heavily on domestic borrowing, citing World Bank advice to focus on fundamentals rather than pursuing a Eurobond.
“The fundamentals of our economy have broken down,” he said, recalling the surge in debt and slowing GDP growth over the years.
“He ended with a rallying call to the NPP, urging the party to unite and prepare to govern. “If we joke with this opportunity, Ghanaians will not forgive us,” he cautioned.
