Dr. Patrick Nomo returns to Finance Ministry as chief director

Dr. Patrick Nomo has officially resumed his role as Chief Director of the Ministry of Finance, two years after being reassigned to the Ministry of Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation.
At a staff gathering held to mark the leadership transition, Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson expressed deep appreciation for the outgoing Chief Director, Ms. Eva Mends, praising her for her stewardship during a period of significant economic turbulence.
Dr. Forson credited Ms. Mends with helping steer the Ministry through Ghana’s recent economic crisis, citing her role in securing the International Monetary Fund’s Extended Credit Facility (IMF-ECF) programme and overseeing key aspects of the debt restructuring process.
“The progress we see in the economy today reflects the hard work of this Ministry, with Eva providing steady leadership and focus,” the Minister said.
Welcoming Dr. Nomo back to the Ministry, Dr. Forson described him as a seasoned technocrat with deep institutional memory and urged staff to rally behind him as the country works to reset and stabilize the economy.
Dr. Nomo originally served as Chief Director of the Ministry from October 2016 until his transfer in 2023. Both he and Ms. Mends have held key roles within the Ministry, including previous tenures as Directors of the Budget Division.
The leadership reshuffle marks a continued effort to strengthen the Ministry’s role in Ghana’s economic recovery and long-term fiscal reform.
