Dr. Solomon Kwarteng urges respect for law, warns judges against external influence

Political consultant Dr. Solomon Kwarteng has expressed support for the court-ordered rerun election in the Kpandai constituency, on condition that the judgment was right, stressing that while the rule of law must prevail, judges must remain vigilant against allowing external interests to influence their rulings.

Speaking on Angel FM Kumasi, Dr. Kwarteng stated that he has no objection to the decision for a rerun if it is what the law requires.

“I support that the law should rule. I would never go against the law if it demands the rule of law. If the law demands a rerun, then who am I to oppose it?” he said.

However, he cautioned that judicial decisions must be guided strictly by fairness and impartiality, warning that rulings influenced by the desire to please particular individuals or groups could have far-reaching consequences.

“If you are a judge and you make a ruling and allow certain instances or interests to influence your judgment, especially because you want to please some people, your ruling can cause damage,” Dr. Kwarteng noted. “Natural justice will eventually reveal whether what you did was right or wrong.”

Drawing historical parallels, Dr. Kwarteng referenced the 2012 presidential election petition between then-candidate Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and now President John Dramani Mahama. He observed that although the Supreme Court could have ordered a rerun at the time, it chose not to, a decision he believes helped avert potential national instability.

“In 2012, the Supreme Court judges could have declared a rerun, but they did not. The outcome of such a decision could have caused chaos,” he said.
