Duncan-Williams calls for visionary and selfless leaders in Africa

Renowned Ghanaian cleric, Archbishop Nicholas Duncan-Williams, has bemoaned the leadership deficit across Africa, stressing the urgent need for visionary and selfless leaders to steer the continent away from stagnation and backwardness.

The Founder and General Overseer of Action Chapel International expressed concern over persistent political and economic setbacks in several African countries, despite the continent’s abundant natural resources and potential.

“When you look at some of the crises on our continent, it just doesn’t make sense. I don’t want to mention names of countries, but it just doesn’t make sense for us to retrogress with all that we have,” he lamented on The Point of View with Bernard Avle on Channel One TV.

Duncan-Williams emphasized that Africa’s struggles are not due to a lack of resources but a lack of purposeful leadership.

He pointed to Ghana’s rich deposits of gold, oil, and cocoa as examples of untapped potential that could transform the country if properly managed.

“There’s no reason why our currency cannot do better. With the gold reserves we have and the oil and cocoa, we can do better,” he said. “We just need visionary leaders and selfless leaders.”

He warned that without a change in leadership mindset, Africa risks missing out on the benefits of its own wealth and the aspirations of its people.

According to him, progress can only be achieved if leaders focus less on personal gain and more on national development.
