East Legon nannies arrested for drugging and torturing twin toddlers

A disturbing case of child abuse has been uncovered in East Legon, Accra, where two nannies allegedly drugged and brutalised twin toddlers in their care.

Police say the women, 30-year-old Francisca Boakye and 31-year-old Harriet Ansah, secretly administered sleep-inducing medication to their employer’s two-year-old sons to keep them unconscious for hours, making it easier to do house chores.

Their actions came to light when the children’s mother noticed unusual drowsiness and behavioural changes in September 2025.

Superintendent Juliana Obeng of the Accra Regional Police Command revealed that the nannies confessed to other forms of abuse, including burning the toddlers’ hands and insulting them with names like “chimpanzee.”

A police search uncovered trays of sachet-pack substances suspected to be the drug ‘Dynewell,’ believed to have been used in the scheme.

The suspects have been charged, cautioned, and remanded, and will reappear in court on October 20, 2025. Police have condemned the “inhumane acts” and urged parents to closely monitor domestic staff.
