EC invites fresh nominations after candidate withdrawals in Tamale Central

The Electoral Commission has reopened nominations for the Tamale Central by-election after two candidates abruptly withdrew, leaving the NDC’s Prof. Seidu Alidu as the sole contender.

In a statement on Friday, September 12, the Commission said nominations would run from September 12 to 21, 2025, in line with Article 50(2) of the 1992 Constitution, which requires a ten-day window if only one candidate remains after nominations close.

Forms can be downloaded from the EC’s website and submitted at the Tamale Metropolitan Office during working hours.

Each nomination must be endorsed by 20 registered voters, include two passport photographs, and be accompanied by a filing fee of GH¢10,000—or GH¢7,500 for women and persons with disabilities.

The withdrawals came from the PNC and LPG candidates, who officially pulled out on September 10.

The NPP had already announced it would not field a candidate in solidarity with the NDC after the tragic death of incumbent MP Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed in a helicopter crash last month.
