ECG disconnects power supply to Baba Yara Stadium over unpaid GHS130,000 debt

The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has disconnected power at Baba Yara Stadium due to an outstanding debt of GHS130,000.

Regardless of multiple reminders, the amount remains unpaid, prompting ECG to cut off the power supply until full payment is made.

The Ministry of Youth and Sports and the National Sports Authority (NSA) have yet to comment on the issue. This comes after the NSA announced in November 2024 that renovations at the stadium were completed.

Formerly, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) banned the venue from hosting Black Stars’ AFCON qualifiers, drawing criticism toward the former government.

Presently, Baba Yara Stadium remains ineligible for CAF and FIFA-sanctioned matches.
