Electoral Commission mourns Omane Boamah and crash victims

The Electoral Commission of Ghana has expressed shock and sorrow over the death of Defence Minister Dr. Edward Kofi Omane Boamah and seven other citizens who perished in a helicopter crash on August 6, 2025.

The Commission described Dr. Omane Boamah as an “active and dedicated member” of the Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC), known for his vocal contributions and unwavering commitment to strengthening Ghana’s democratic and electoral processes.

“His absence at our meetings will be felt,” the statement signed by Chairperson Mrs. Jean Mensa read, highlighting the late Minister’s significant role in fostering dialogue and consensus among political stakeholders.

The Commission extended heartfelt condolences to President John Dramani Mahama, the Government, the bereaved families, and the people of Ghana, assuring them that their thoughts and prayers are with the nation during this period of mourning.

The helicopter tragedy also claimed the lives of Environment Minister Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, Deputy National Security Coordinator Alhaji Muniru Mohammed Limuna, former Ashanti Regional Minister Dr. Samuel Sarpong, former parliamentary candidate Samuel Aboagye, and three senior military personnel.

“May the souls of the departed rest in peace,” the statement concluded.
