Energy Minister confirms Sunday shutdown to boost gas output

Minister of Energy and Green Transition, John Abdulai Jinapor has confirmed that indeed there is a planned temporary shutdown of ENI’s gas plant this Sunday, July 13, to enable a critical upgrade that is expected to significantly increase natural gas production.

Speaking in an interview with the Daily Graphic, the Minister explained that the shutdown, though short-lived, is essential to raising output levels and stabilising the country’s energy supply.

“This Sunday, July 13, ENI will turn off its valves temporarily to increase gas production to about 270 MMscf,” Jinapor revealed. “It means that we are stabilising the energy sector.”

He acknowledged that the maintenance may lead to some power disruptions during the day but emphasized that the move is necessary for long-term energy stability.

“Because the plant will be turned off for a short period within the day for maintenance works, we are likely to experience some interruption of power. It is for a good purpose,” he assured.

According to the Minister, engineers advised against running the plants on liquid fuel during the brief shutdown, citing technical complexities.

“Based on the advice from engineers, I have directed that we do not attempt to run those plants on liquid fuel for that short period. It involves changing nozzles and a lot of work,” Jinapor added.
