EPA team and journalists involved ghastly accident after violent clash with illegal miners

According to a report by 3News, a team of journalists accompanying a special Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) operation against galamsey in the Ashanti Region has been involved in a serious accident.
The incident, which occurred at Afari, left two journalists in critical condition. It followed a violent confrontation between the EPA task force and a group of illegal miners at Dadwene, a community near Obuasi.
Reports suggest that the miners attacked the EPA convoy, forcing both the agency’s officials and the journalists to withdraw from the scene.
As the team retreated, their vehicle was later involved in an accident at Afari, resulting in several injuries.
Among the journalists on the trip was Ibrahim Abubakar, the Ashanti Regional Correspondent of Media General, who was reported to be safe.
Providing an update after the incident, reporter William Evans-Nkum clarified the seeming confusion between the two locations, explaining that while the confrontation happened near Obuasi, the accident itself took place in Afari.
