Eric Opoku is a well known and experienced politician who belongs to the National Democratic Congress NDC.

The Legislature is currently a Minister of Food and Agriculture since 2025. He also represents the good people of the Asunafo South Constituency in the Ahafo Regional in Ghana.

Opoku was first elected MP for Asunafo South (Brong Ahafo) in Ghana’s 3rd Parliament. After losing his seat, he served as Deputy Brong Ahafo Regional Minister (2009-2013). He was re-elected to parliament in 2013, serving until 2017, and was re-elected again in 2017.

In the 7th Parliament, he was the Ranking Member on the Food, Agriculture and Cocoa Affairs Committee and also served on the Privileges and Appointments Committees.

His tenure as Regional Minister was, nevertheless, enmeshed in controversy as well, chief among them his suspected involvement in the misappropriation of funds under the Savannah Accelerated Development Authority (SADA) afforestation project, a scandal that severely damaged his reputation.
