Even Akufo-Addo was looking for someone to blame – Arthur Kennedy fires at NPP

Outspoken New Patriotic Party (NPP) stalwart, Dr. Arthur Kennedy, has launched a blistering critique of the party’s post-election conduct, calling out former government officials, current party leadership, and the growing lack of accountability within the NPP.
In his latest open letter, Dr. Kennedy ridiculed the blame-shifting culture that followed the party’s defeat in the last general elections, suggesting even former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo (NADAA) may have been searching for scapegoats.
“A wag told me that even the President, NADAA, at some point, was searching for someone to blame for the failures of his government!” he wrote.
He criticised the silence of many appointees during the Akufo-Addo administration who, he claims, had spent years praising the President’s leadership only to suddenly find their voices when the government exited power.
“All of a sudden, many who had spent the preceding 8 years praising Prez. NADAA for his sterling leadership, including his MMDCEs, suddenly found their voice and joined the Ghanaian habit of speaking freely and badly when people are no longer in power,” he said.
Dr. Kennedy condemned what he described as the party’s growing intolerance of internal criticism, alleging that a sort of “Fatwa” had been issued against those who speak truth to power within the party.
He also questioned the timing and motives behind the NPP leadership’s decision to select a new flagbearer before renewing their own mandate—despite the expiration of their term and widespread discontent within the grassroots.
“Now all of a sudden, the party leadership, whose mandate is due to expire, has decided that it wants to choose a flagbearer before renewing its own mandate,” he said, describing the move as a disgraceful attempt to sidestep accountability.
In a stinging rebuke of some former appointees under Akufo-Addo’s administration, Dr. Kennedy accused them of seeking the presidency not to serve but to complete an alleged agenda of “galamsey, cathedral looting, and impunity.”
“Many of the discredited functionaries of the NADAA administration are lining up to be flagbearer so they can finish the Galamsey-Cathedral-Looting-Impunity agenda they did not finish.”
He added that in any serious country, most of them would be facing prosecution, not eyeing the highest office of the land.
However, Dr. Kennedy clarified that not all former officials are corrupt, but emphasized the need for a robust and credible accountability process to distinguish between genuine public servants and opportunists.
“There must be a vigorous accountability process to make sure that those who are rich are honestly rich and those who claim rich ideas truly have good ideas.”
