Every regime in Ghana has been toppled over corruption

Veteran broadcaster and anti-corruption campaigner Kwaku Sintim Misa (KSM) says corruption has haunted Ghana’s political history since independence, and has been the undoing of every regime.
Speaking on The KSM Show monitored by MyNewsGh, he traced the recurring theme of corruption through Ghana’s coups and leadership changes, dating back to the fall of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah in 1966.
“When Nkrumah was overthrown, corruption was one of the charges. When Acheampong came, it was the same. Every government that has been overthrown in this country, one of the main charges was corruption,” KSM recounted.
He argued that Ghana has normalized the rhetoric of corruption to the extent that it’s become part of the national vocabulary.
“Corruption is now part of our political lingo. Every survey names the judiciary, the police, parliament, all these institutions, and yet nothing changes,” he lamented.
KSM said while governments change and new anti-corruption drives are launched, the underlying system remains the same.
“We keep saying ‘corruption, corruption, corruption,’ but the system itself is designed in a way that you must be corrupt to survive in it. That’s the tragedy of Ghana,” he emphasized.
He urged Ghanaians to move beyond rhetoric and confront the root causes, insisting that historical patterns will repeat until the system itself is reformed.
