Stonebwoy has addressed the recent social media debate over a signage at Kotoko International Airport that greeted travelers with “Akwaaba”, the Akan word for “welcome.”
Some online users questioned why the sign didn’t use other local languages especially Ga, when, the airport is situated on a Ga land.
The custodians of the land proposed Oobake, the Ga word for welcome to be used officially instead.
Stonebwoy however believes that argument misses the bigger picture.
“We can’t go back to tribalism,” he cautioned.
“If we start fighting over which language represents Ghana, we’ll destroy the unity we’ve built.”
He emphasized that all Ghanaian languages deserve recognition and that unity should come before regional pride.
“Whether it’s ‘Akwaaba,’ ‘Woezor,’ or ‘Baraka Da Zuwa,’ it’s all Ghana. Every tribe matters,” he said in the interview with the Headless YouTuber monitored by MyNewsGh.
