Ewurabena’s victory stained by blood – Sammi Awuku

The Member of Parliament for Akuapim North, Samuel Awuku (Sammi Awuku), has launched a scathing critique of the recent parliamentary rerun in Ablekuma North, describing the process as marred by violence and government complicity.

Mr. Awuku did not mince words about the events leading to the swearing-in of Ewurabena Aubynn, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) MP-elect.

“We clearly believe that she is a product of a violent election that left people maimed, that left people traumatized, and also that left people severely beaten,” he stated in an interview with Citi News’ Hanson Agyemang on Tuesday, July 22.

The rerun, which took place earlier this month, was necessitated by the Electoral Commission’s annulment of the December 2024 parliamentary election results in 19 polling stations due to procedural irregularities.

But according to Mr. Awuku, the violence that reportedly characterized the rerun has undermined the legitimacy of the outcome.

In response to questions about the Minority’s walkout during Aubynn’s swearing-in, the Akuapim North MP justified the action, arguing it was rooted in protest against the silence of law enforcement agencies and the Presidency.

“The noisy silence of the law enforcement agencies gives us the impression that these operatives and those who acted in that manner had the tacit endorsement of government,” Awuku charged.

“Why? Because it is very strange that not a single act of condemnation had come from the quarters of the presidency.”

The swearing-in of Ewurabena Aubynn was further marked by controversy after Minority Chief Whip, Frank Annoh-Dompreh, was denied the opportunity to speak before the oath was administered—an action that triggered the Minority’s dramatic exit from the Chamber.
