Fame can ruin you if you’re not careful — Yaw Tog

Rapper Yaw Tog has shared an insight on his upbringing, career shift, and lessons learned from navigating fame at a young age.
The Life Music frontman revealed that his path to music was shaped by his mother’s fears and unwavering caution.
“I wanted to be a footballer at first,” he said in an interview monitored by MyNewsGh.
“But the police used to raid the pitch near our area because some of the boys smoked there. My mom was scared, so she’d chase me away from training. That’s how music came in.”
Despite her initial hesitation, his mother eventually supported his decision to pursue music, though she remains worried about the environment around studios.
“She’s still scared, she’s seen videos of people smoking in studios. But I tell her I’m focused,” he explained with a laugh.
Yaw Tog also opened up about the pressures of fame, advising young artists to stay grounded when success comes their way.
“When fame comes, treat it in a way that you don’t lose certain people,” he said. “The ones God sends to help you in life are very few, so protect those relationships.”
Now an independent artist under his own label, Life Music, Yaw Tog says he prefers partnerships over traditional record deals, citing the intense pressure and restrictive nature of 360 contracts. “It’s draining to fund your music, but I love being in control,” he noted.
