Fameye paid me GH¢5,000 to twerk – Akuapem Poloo reveals

Ghanaian actress and socialite Rosemond Brown, popularly known as Akuapem Poloo, has made a shocking revelation about her early career strategy—she used to pay people to insult her on social media to get public attention.

Poloo said her journey to fame was anything but conventional during an inteeview on Joy Prime’s Changes with host Roselyn Felli on Tuesday, July 23, 2025,

“At first when I started, I was paying for people to insult me for about a year. I’ve been in the game and no one calls me and I was not getting anything,” she revealed.

While many celebrities dread negative publicity, Akuapem Poloo embraced it as a calculated tactic to get people talking—and it worked.

She explained that after a year of deliberately courting controversy online, the offers started coming in.

“But after that, people were calling me for interviews, skin care deals. Stars would call me to dance or twerk on their songs and they would pay me. Even Fameye was giving me GH¢5,000 to twerk on his song.”

Poloo also opened up about how poorly she was compensated during her acting days, especially before her rise to social media fame.

“As for the acting, GH¢20. With GBC, they were giving me something better because of legendary Maame Dokono—she was taking good care of us, but with the others, it was GH¢20.”

Her testimony sheds light on the struggles many Ghanaian entertainers face in the early stages of their careers and the lengths some go to in order to break into the spotlight.
