Family Head of deceased Aboagye details how it all brewed

Nana Kwabena Gyamra Yiakwan, the head and spokesperson for the family of the late Samuel Aboagye, has offered fresh insights into the ongoing controversy surrounding Mrs. Abigail Aboagye’s refusal to allow a DNA test for their child.

In a radio interview monitored by MyNewsGh, Nana Yiakwan explained that following the August 6 helicopter crash, “the government, as part of official processes to identify the charred bodies of the remains of the victims, requested DNA samples.”

He added that Mrs. Aboagye initially expressed reluctance in submitting her child for the test.

“I was informed by the Mayor of Kumasi, Hon. Richard Ofori-Agyemang Boadi, to get ready for the DNA.

“I also informed Abigail about the development, even promising to get her a ticket to come from her base in the USA for the process to be done,” he said.

However, when the time arrived, Abigail was absent, forcing the family to rely on Aboagye’s child from another relationship.

Nana Yiakwan revealed that after the testing, Abigail requested that the family perform widowhood rituals according to Akan custom so she could move on with her life.

“That was where we grew suspicious,” he said. “The custom she demanded is done a year after a man’s death, but for her to demand it immediately meant something was amiss.”

He also recalled a confession from Aboagye before his death.

“When Aboagye was alive, he confided in her mother and myself that he doubted if he was the biological father,” Nana Yiakwan said.

According to him, the marriage between Aboagye and Abigail occurred while she was pregnant, “to avoid scrutiny.”

He added, “While alive, Aboagye constantly brought up the issue, which became a source of conflict for the couple, and I often mediated between them.”

Nana Yiakwan explained that he devised a plan to have Aboagye’s daughter DNA tested to verify the suspicions.

“Initially, Abigail and her family agreed, but when the time came for the blood samples to be collected, they alleged I was going to use the blood sample for rituals, which is why they took the matter to court,” he said.

He confirmed that the court would hear the matter next month and hinted at further revelations.

“I also know the MP Abigail has been cheating behind her husband, and at the right time, I will mention his name,” Nana Yiakwan stated.
