Fiifi Kwetey backs calls for the removal of the EC chair and her deputies

General Secretary for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Fiifi Kwetey, has backed calls by some leading members for the sack of the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission and her Deputies.

In an interview with Accra-based Joy News, he indicated that the EC Chair and her deputies have committed a big crime and need to be shown the exit.

However, he wants due process to be followed in their removal from office.

To Fiifi Kwetey, the EC Chair and her Deputies committed a grave crime when Santrokofi, Akpafu, Lipke and Lolobi (SALL) in the Oti Region did not vote in the 2020 parliamentary elections.

“I don’t want them to jump the gun. If the petition has been submitted, let the due process be followed. I have said it, on the back of that…any group that supervises that has clearly no reason to remain in office. That’s the biggest crime you can commit under any democracy to take away the right of people from being represented,” he told Joy News.

He continued, “If you could commission an independent survey to gauge the sentiment of the people of Ghana, I believe that a vast majority of Ghanaians will want them gone too.”

His call comes at a time a staff of the electoral commission has petitioned the president of Ghana to remove the EC chair.
