Finance Minister Ato Forson presents 2026 budget to parliament

Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson has presented the 2026 Budget Statement and Economic Policy of the Government to Parliament on behalf of President John Dramani Mahama, outlining key fiscal measures aimed at sustaining recovery and deepening reforms.

Addressing the House on Thursday, Dr. Forson invoked the authority of the President and constitutional provisions under Articles 179 and Section 21 of the Public Financial Management Act to seek parliamentary approval for the budget and accompanying reports.

He also tabled several Bills and policy proposals, including the repeal of the COVID-19 Health Recovery Levy, amendments to the GETFund and National Health Insurance Acts, and the introduction of an AI-powered trade data analytics system to enhance customs revenue.

Dr. Forson described the 2026 Budget as a continuation of the “Reset Agenda” launched under the Mahama administration, reaffirming the government’s resolve to restore confidence in the economy through discipline and reform.

He reminded lawmakers that the 2025 Budget marked the first decisive step toward rebuilding an economy weakened by debt and mismanagement, adding that this year’s theme echoes President Mahama’s vision of renewal and resilience as expressed in the 2025 State of the Nation Address.
