Fire guts makeshift structures near Madina Redco Flats

A massive fire has reportedly destroyed makeshift structures near the Madina Redco Flats on August 3.

The fire, which broke out around midday, ravaged several wooden and metal shelters used for both residential and commercial purposes.

Eyewitnesses watched helplessly as flames also consumed nearby traders’ wares and utility poles.

According to the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), the emergency call was received at exactly 12:36 p.m.

A team from the Madina Fire Station arrived within four minutes, and by 1:56 p.m., firefighters had managed to bring the blaze under control.

To contain the spread, reinforcements were quickly dispatched from Legon, Abelempke, and the GNFS Headquarters—bringing the number of fire engines at the scene to five.

While no injuries or fatalities were reported, GNFS officials have confirmed that overhauling operations are still ongoing to snuff out any lingering embers.

Investigations are also underway to determine the exact cause of the fire.
