Five-month old baby dies in fire incident at Kissieman

A tragic fire outbreak at Kissieman, near Achimota-Samodak in Accra has claimed the life of a five-month old baby.
According to eyewitnesses, the fire started around 2 a.m. after a candle, placed near a gas cylinder, was left unattended destroying over twenty wooden structures.
Several containers and shops were also destroyed. Firefighters struggled to contain the flames due to the presence of highly combustible materials.
The remains of the baby have been handed over to the police for further investigation, while efforts to determine the cause of the fire are ongoing.
Ayawaso West Wuogon MP, John Dumelo visited the scene and assured affected residents of support and calling for stricter fire safety measures.

Authorities urge residents to practice caution with open flames to prevent similar tragedies.
According to the Head of Public Relations at the GNFS, Divisional Officer Two (DO II) Desmond E. Ackah, firefighters from the Legon and Abelemkpe Fire Stations received the distress call at 4:12 a.m. and arrived just 12 minutes later.
He stated that the firefighters swiftly contained the inferno, preventing it from spreading to nearby buildings, including a warehouse, and finally brought it under control at 5:02 a.m.
“Firefighters are currently conducting overhauling operations to completely extinguish any remaining flames,” he added.
