Flooding affects us all — Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings urges collaboration after Odawna visit

Member of Parliament for Klottey-Korle, Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, has reiterated the need for collective and sustained action to address the recurring flooding challenges in Accra.

In a post shared on her social media page on Wednesday, October 8, the MP revealed that she had embarked on a field visit to several flood-prone areas in her constituency to assess the impact of recent heavy rains.

“Today’s visit to Odawna, the Kwame Nkrumah Circle enclave (behind the GCB) and the Paloma Hotel area at Asylum Down focused on assessing the impact of recent floods and engaging stakeholders, including the Ministry of Works and Housing, on the progress of dredging and construction works to mitigate the effect of the flooding caused by heavy rainfall,” she wrote.

Dr. Agyeman-Rawlings emphasised that the fight against flooding extends beyond constituency boundaries, calling for stronger cooperation among relevant agencies and the public.

“Flooding is not just a Klottey-Korle issue. It affects us all,” she noted, stressing that the problem requires “sensitisation, collaboration, accountability, a strong will and sustained action from all stakeholders.”

Her visit follows days of torrential rainfall that left parts of Accra submerged, reigniting public concern about inadequate drainage systems and urban planning lapses.
