Focus on facts and people, not paperwork

Cynthia Morrison has highlighted the importance of competence and discipline within political parties, drawing from her experiences working closely with key figures.
In an interview on Starr FM monitored by MyNewGh, the Former NPP member and independent candidate emphasized that leadership is not just about technical knowledge, but the ability to make decisions that genuinely touch people’s lives.
“You tell your technical people what you want, and they’ll fashion it. But me, I never read any notes. When you do a written note, I’ll just go through and do ex-tempo,” she explained.
Morrison noted that she prefers to handle matters firsthand, especially when facts and figures are involved.
“If you put figures there and it’s wrong, I have to answer. So I look at the script and put it down when I do my ex-tempo,” she said.
She stressed that political discourse should remain respectful, even amid disagreements. “As a party, we don’t need to insult each other.
“We don’t need to fight,” Morrison said, highlighting that leaders must focus on what truly matters: competence, financial stewardship, and public trust.
Reflecting on her own observations of party leaders in action, Morrison shared moments that reinforced her belief in merit and ability.
“I’ve sat with him, and he does business on the phone. I listened, and I’m like, ‘Hey Jack,’ you understand? If he was not competent, I would have told him straight,” she said, illustrating her hands-on approach to evaluating leadership.
