Folk-Rock icon Jesse Colin Young dies at 83

Jesse Colin Young, the legendary voice behind the 1960s folk-rock band The Youngbloods, has passed away at the age of 83.

The singer, known for the timeless anthem Get Together, died at his home in Aiken, South Carolina, on March 16, 2025. His cause of death has not been disclosed.

Born Perry Miller on November 22, 1941, in Queens, New York, Young was a defining figure in the folk-rock movement.

As the frontman of The Youngbloods, he helped shape an era with music that carried messages of peace and unity. Get Together, released in 1967, became one of the most enduring songs of the time, later solidifying its place in pop culture through films and commercials.

Following the breakup of The Youngbloods in 1972, Young embarked on a successful solo career, delivering critically acclaimed albums such as Song for Juli and Light Shine.

His soulful voice and introspective songwriting won him a dedicated following, and he continued to make music for decades.

Beyond music, Young was a passionate advocate for environmental causes and social justice. His artistry and activism left a lasting impact, making him not just a musician but a voice for change.
