Former Metro Mass Deputy MD defends NPP’s record, says no SSNIT arrears were left behind

Former Deputy Managing Director of Metro Mass Transit(MMT), Nana Osei Bamfo, has defended the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) record at the company, asserting that no worker was owed any SSNIT contributions when the party left power.
Speaking in an interview on Oyerepa FM/TV monitored by MyNewsGh, Mr. Bamfo clarified that the NPP administration inherited a pile of debts, including arrears owed to SSNIT, from the previous National Democratic Congress (NDC) government.
“When we took over, Metro Mass was struggling with serious financial challenges, including unpaid SSNIT contributions. But we worked hard to clear all the arrears,” he stated.
According to him, the management under his tenure not only cleared the outstanding debts but also improved the welfare of employees. “We made sure we started on a clean slate.
In fact, we even increased the monthly payments to strengthen workers’ welfare,” he added.
Mr. Bamfo detailed how the company gradually increased its monthly SSNIT payments over time.
“Every month, we paid GH¢100,000 to settle the previous administration’s lapses.
“By the time we were leaving office, that figure had risen to GH¢600,000,” he explained, emphasizing that the record demonstrates their competence and commitment to ensuring no worker was left disadvantaged.
He concluded by saying that such prudent management practices were proof that the NPP administration took the welfare of Metro Mass workers seriously and maintained financial discipline throughout its tenure.
