Former NFL and UFC fighter Greg Hardy arrested for alleged family assault

Greg Hardy, a former NFL star and ex-UFC heavyweight, has found himself in legal trouble once again.
On Tuesday, June 4, 2025, Hardy was arrested in Texas for allegedly assaulting a family member, according to jail records obtained by TMZ Sports.
The 36-year-old was booked at around 2:29 PM and charged with “assault causing bodily injury to a family member.”
He remains in custody and is expected to appear before a judge on Thursday morning, when his bond will be determined.
This is far from Hardy’s first brush with the law. In 2014, he was convicted of assaulting his then-girlfriend—though the charges were later dropped after the victim refused to testify. Two years later, in 2016, Hardy was arrested for cocaine possession.
Once considered a dominant defensive end in the NFL, Hardy played for the Carolina Panthers and Dallas Cowboys, even earning Pro Bowl and second-team All-Pro honors in 2013.
But off-field issues derailed his career, and he pivoted to mixed martial arts. From 2019 to 2022, he competed in the UFC before transitioning to boxing. His last known bout was in 2024 against Russian boxer Aleksei Papin.
Details of the alleged family assault remain scarce, but this latest arrest adds to a troubling pattern for Hardy—a once-promising athlete whose career has become defined by controversy outside the ring and gridiron.
