Former president Kufuor reacts to tragic helicopter crash

Former President John Agyekum Kufuor has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic deaths of Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, Minister for Defence, Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, Minister for Environment, Science, Technology, and Innovation, and six others who lost their lives in a devastating helicopter crash on Wednesday, August 6, 2025.

In an official statement from his office, the former President said:

“With all humility, I join the nation to mourn the shocking passing of Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, Minister for Defence, and Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, Minister for Environment, Science, Technology, and Innovation, and the six others who tragically lost their lives in a helicopter crash today, whilst on their way to perform a national duty.”

He extended his heartfelt condolences to the families, friends, and colleagues of the deceased, stating that the loss is not only a personal tragedy but a national one.

“My thoughts and prayers are with the families, friends, and colleagues of all those who perished in this tragic incident. May we honour their memory by striving for compassion, unity and common purpose in serving our nation, GHANA.”

Former President Kufuor also called for national unity and comfort for the bereaved, urging Ghanaians to rally behind the families and the sitting President during this difficult time.

“May God console the entire nation, especially the families of the deceased, the President of the Republic and all Ghanaians.”
