Freddie Blay declares support for Bawumia, says delegates hold NPP’s future

Former National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Freddie Blay, has expressed continued confidence in Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s leadership despite the party’s loss in the 2024 general elections.

Speaking in a candid interview on AsaasePa 107.3 on Monday, Blay stated that he still believes in Bawumia’s potential and would personally support him if he contests again.

“I think Bawumia’s ticket is good. I still have faith in that,” he said.

Blay was responding to discussions about the future of the NPP and recent comments from other party stalwarts, including Assin Central MP Kennedy Agyapong.

While Agyapong has openly criticized the party’s strategy and performance, Blay took a more measured stance, noting that internal debates are healthy within any political movement.

“Ken Agyapong has his own opinion, and of course, this is a contest. They have convinced themselves to serve,” he added.

Despite his personal endorsement, Blay acknowledged that the future of the party rests not in individual endorsements but in the democratic choices of NPP delegates.

“When the time comes, delegates will decide,” he said. “I think I will put my bet behind him, but I am talking as an individual.”
