Fresh blood needed, not Mahama in 2028 – Solomon Owusu

Movement for Change member, Solomon Owusu, has dismissed suggestions that his resistance to extending John Dramani Mahama’s mandate beyond 2028 is tied to Alan Kyeremanteng’s presidential ambitions.
“No, but the fact that John Mahama contests in 2028 does not mean Alan will not contest.
There is no clear-cut rule that once President Mahama is in the picture, Alan will lose. After all, Mahama has gone into an election and lost and won some,” Owusu stated on Joy Prime in an interview monitored by MyNewsGh.
He argued that Africa’s history is filled with examples of leaders who overstayed their welcome, to the detriment of their nations.
“You look at what is happening in Cameroon. You look at what is happening in Equatorial Guinea.
“All of them, you look at the president, you see that they are tired, bereft of ideas. So you have to exit the scene to allow fresh blood to come into the picture.”
For Owusu, Mahama’s leadership should not go beyond the constitutionally mandated two terms, as he believes the former president would naturally run out of steam.
“I believe he will be tired after two terms. Whatever ideas he has, by two terms he would have exhausted it. What else?” he emphasized.
By his reasoning, the nation would be better served by transitioning to new leadership rather than holding on to one man who, in his view, would have already given all he had to offer.
