GAF Recruitment in Accra Resumes Thursday, November 20, After Temporary Halt

The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) on Monday, November 17, 2025, has announced the resumption of its 2025/2026 recruitment exercise in the Greater Accra Region, just days after a temporary suspension triggered by a tragic stampede which led to the death of 6 females and left many injured.
The exercise, which was paused last week to allow investigations, will continue on Thursday, November 20, 2025, with expanded safety measures and new administrative changes aimed at preventing crowding and improving order.
In a statement issued by the Department of Public Relations at Burma Camp and signed by Acting Director General of Public Relations, Captain Veronica Adzo Arhin, the GAF assured the public that the screening process will now take place across eight sub-centres in Greater Accra to ease pressure and ensure a smoother flow.
The designated centres include:
- El-Wak Stadium – 2 centres
- Nicholson Park, Burma Camp – 2 centres
- Air Force Base, Burma Camp
- Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC), Teshie – 2 centres
- Eastern Naval Command, Tema
To further streamline the process, qualified applicants, grouped in batches of 600, will receive SMS notifications detailing their reporting dates, batches and screening centres. Applicants have also been encouraged to monitor the GAF recruitment portal for continuous updates.
The Armed Forces cautioned that no applicant will be admitted without receiving the official text message. Those expecting confirmation but unable to access it by Thursday are instructed to contact the dedicated helplines for assistance.
GAF also issued a strong advisory for family members and friends to stay away from the screening centres to reduce congestion, one of the critical factors linked to the earlier incident.
The Armed Forces confirmed that the Board of Inquiry tasked with probing the circumstances leading to last week’s stampede is still at work. To ensure transparency and fairness, the entire Greater Accra Recruitment Team has been replaced, with three senior officers, Commodore FA Nyarko, Colonel F. Kusi-Darko and Colonel GB Eduah, taking over key leadership roles.
The GAF emphasised that any individuals found culpable after the investigation will face sanctions.
In a gesture of compassion, the Ghana Armed Forces extended heartfelt sympathies to bereaved families and well-wishes to those injured. All injured persons are to continue receiving free medical care at the 37 Military Hospital until fully recovered.
In addition, the Armed Forces announced a special recruitment package for all injured individuals after their recovery as well as support packages for affected families.
Captain Arhin assured the public of the Armed Forces’ commitment to running a transparent, safe and fair recruitment process. She appealed to all applicants to cooperate fully with the new measures to ensure order and safety throughout the exercise.
The statement ended with a call for calm and support from the general public, stressing that the success of the national recruitment exercise “depends on collective discipline.”
