Galamsey fight needs nation builders not hecklers — Ama Pratt

Ama Pratt has urged a measured, patriotic response to the alleged involvement of NDC MP Ebenezer Kwaku Addo in the Bronikrom shooting incident linked to illegal mining, insisting that facts must guide public commentary.

“We all don’t know the full facts. That is why we wait. Natural justice demands we hear from them first,” she said, cautioning against jumping to conclusions.

She challenged partisan framing around the development, arguing that national security issues such as illegal mining require sober, collective commitment.

“If it turns out to be true, how does calling NDC a scam solve this? Your role is not to criticize for its own sake. Your role is nation building,” she noted.

According to Pratt, responsible opposition strengthens the country, and constant political bitterness only stalls progress.

“When you stay in that space of sour grapes and only criticize, how do we move ahead and build Ghana?” she asked.

Addressing claims of selective justice, she drew a contrast with previous administrations.
“We lived through an era where people protesting illegal mining were arrested. We are not doing that. We are moving forward,” she said.

She highlighted ongoing efforts to reverse environmental degradation, pointing to improvements in key water bodies.

“This is work showing. This is victory for the fight against galamsey,” she asserted.

Pratt welcomed the Speaker of Parliament’s approval for police to proceed with investigations into the matter.

“Speaker has given police green light. Go and deal with him if he is culpable. This is leadership, not propaganda,” she emphasised.

Her remarks follow the violent confrontation at Bronikrom near Hwidiem in the Ahafo Region, where a NAIMOS team came under attack after pursuing illegal miners. Police recovered weapons and unregistered vehicles, and investigations are ongoing.
