Genuine political will is now in place to defeat galamsey – Sammy Gyamfi

Appearing on Joy FM’s Super Morning Show with Kojo Yankson monitored by MyNewsGh, Sammy Gyamfi highlighted renewed momentum in the fight against illegal mining, stressing that significant progress is being made and urging continued support from all sectors.

“We are seeing genuine political will, which is the most important ingredient needed to defeat the galamsey menace. It didn’t used to be the case,” Gyamfi said, commending current efforts while encouraging constructive criticism to strengthen the campaign.

Speaking on behalf of the Gold Board, he outlined contributions already made to support operations on the ground.

“We’re giving them 5 million, we’re giving them 5 pickups. Very soon, we’ll give them more pickups because they need more. We’ll give them more money,” he disclosed.

He appealed to the private sector to play an active role in sustaining the fight. “I want to encourage corporate Ghana and all those who can help,” he added.

Gyamfi also praised the NEMOS task force for their work, urging media platforms and the public to highlight their successes while holding them accountable where necessary.

“They need coverage and support. They need to be encouraged. We need to amplify what is being done. But please, where they get it wrong, feel free to criticise us. Your criticism will help keep us on our toes.”

He closed by reaffirming his commitment to ending illegal mining. “We are committed to ending this menace,” he said.
