GES extends SHS school selection deadline to June 25, includes private schools in free SHS programme

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has officially extended the deadline for the ongoing school selection process for Junior High School (JHS) graduates to Wednesday, June 25, 2025.
In a statement signed by Mr. Prince Agyemang-Duah, Director of the Schools and Instructions Division, GES explained that the extension has been made to accommodate the inclusion of selected private Senior High Schools (SHSs) under the government’s Free SHS programme.
“This extension has become necessary due to the inclusion of private Senior High Schools (SHSs) in the selection process, allowing candidates additional time to make well-informed choices,” the statement read.
GES emphasized that all existing guidelines and procedures remain unchanged, and urged candidates to seek guidance.
“Candidates are encouraged to consult with their teachers, parents, and guardians to make informed and thoughtful decisions regarding their second cycle school education,” it added.
To facilitate the process, a supplementary register of the newly added private SHSs has been distributed.
GES also called on Regional Directors to disseminate the updated information through Metro, Municipal, and District Directors to all JHS headteachers.
The statement concluded by encouraging students to take full advantage of the extended period to carefully review and select their preferred schools.
