Ghana Health Service reshuffles 13 top officials in major shake-up

The Ghana Health Service (GHS) has announced a sweeping re-assignment of 13 top programme managers and district directors in what it describes as a strategic move to strengthen the country’s health system.
Key figures affected by the shake-up include Dr. Keziah Malm of the National Malaria Elimination Programme, Dr. Kwame Amponsa-Achiano, Manager of the Expanded Programme on Immunization (EPI), and Dr. Stephen Ayisi Addo of the AIDS Control Programme. The reassignments will take effect from May 19, 2025.
A circular signed by the Acting Director-General of the GHS, Prof. Samuel Kaba Akoriyea, and addressed to all divisional and regional directors, indicated that the changes form part of a broader national strategy aimed at revitalizing the health sector and improving service delivery.
According to the statement, the restructuring is designed to align the skills and expertise of the service’s leadership with emerging health priorities, and to introduce fresh perspectives in critical programme areas.
The letter did not specify the new positions for each reassigned officer, but it emphasized that the affected personnel would be informed of their new roles in due course.
This development marks one of the most extensive administrative overhauls in recent years within the GHS and comes at a time when the country continues to confront both long-standing public health challenges and emerging threats.
