Ghana is bleeding from corruption – Nuong Faalong

Ghanaian entrepreneur, journalist, and activist Nuong Faalong has raised concerns about the deep-rooted corruption in the country, stating that past government actions have caused significant financial losses.

“Ghana has lost money; true, Ghana is bleeding. The kind of corruption that went on in the previous administration was obscene, and it is being revealed as time goes on,” she said in an interview on GHOne TV monitored by MyNewsGH.

According to her, ongoing audits will continue to expose major financial mismanagement. “You do not expect that as other people conduct other audits, you will not find more atrocious crimes,” she noted, insisting that the government cannot simply move forward without addressing these past issues.

“You cannot just tell the government to ignore these crimes and move on. Yes, first, you stop the bleeding, but you also have to find out what caused the bleeding,” she argued.

Faalong acknowledged that the allegations of corruption have not yet been proven in court but maintained that evidence exists. “You cannot say on authority that the level of corruption was obscene because we have not been able to prove it in any competent court of jurisdiction. Have we? Well, not yet. But the facts are out there,” she emphasized.

She dismissed claims that the public should not be informed until legal action is taken. “The public requires information, and we are going to court. When we go to court, you will see these things,” she asserted.

Referring to previous high-profile trials, she criticized those opposing public disclosure. “I remember Madam Clinton mentioned when Ato Forson was being tried. It was all over the media. It became a spectacle. These are the same people telling us not to give the public information? Really?”

Faalong maintained that transparency is crucial in governance, insisting that those who claim innocence have nothing to fear. “If you claim that you are not guilty, the court will find out very soon. But the facts will be presented,” she stated.

She concluded by commending the current Attorney General for handling cases professionally and ensuring accountability. “Thankfully, we have an Attorney General who is very learned and professional. He is not trying to scheme to create trouble for anyone. He is going according to the facts,” she said.
